Reaction To Congressional Baseball Practice Shooting

Congressman Steve Scalise, a congressional staffer and members of the Capitol Hill Police were shot this morning in Alexandria, Virginia, in what sources are calling an apparent "deliberate attack." when congress were practicing for their annual charity baseball game. Scalise appears to be recovering well and I'm thankful for that.

The Capitol Hill Police Officer took down the gunman even after they took injuries themselves.

Sen. Rand Paul told CNN "it would have been a massacre" without the Capitol Hill Police officers present.

Law enforcement authorities identified him as James T. Hodgkinson, 66, from Belleville, Ill., and quite frankly I'm glad he's dead. He died as a result of a gunfight with police, which thankfully he lost. I have no sympathy for him.

The baseball field was basically a killing field. It's really sick and very sad.

James T. Hodgkinson, at one point, volunteered to help with Bernie Sanders and his campaign. Bernie Sanders was very quick to denounce James T. Hodgkinson actions and called it sick!!

Thursday's congressional baseball game will still go on as scheduled.

The Capitol Police officers who were injured are "in good condition and have not suffered any life-threatening injuries at this point," Capitol Police Chief said at the news conference. Members described Scalise dragging himself roughly 15 yards away from second base, where he had been playing, and lying there until the shooter was neutralized, at which point some of them ran to assist him and apply pressure to the wound until he could be evacuated.
